The Mists of Ravenloft

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.

Enter Kartakass

Exiting the mists, the group found themselves within a misty forest. Eager to return home, Nalia set about finding a recognizable route through the woods. It soon became evident that the forest lacked any recognizable features. Could they still be far from home?

Transforming into an eagle, Nalia soared high into the sky. In the distance, a small settlement grew from a cliff beside a river. The party traveled on to the town in an effort to determine where they are and how far they had to get back to home.

The party soon arrived at the town of Harmonia. Not only did the surrounding forest lack any recognizable fauna, but no one within the small hamlet could speak or understand the parties language. Relying on magical means, the party was able to secure a nights stay within The Longhorn Inn. That evening, the party spent losing themselves to the drink.

One by one, each of the party members passed out. Thorn continued to drink well into the night. A darkness had been creeping over the Barbarian’s thoughts. Before passing through the mists, Thorn had confronted his best friend Tony. The man had been transformed from caring monk to a decaying corpse given undead life. Thorn provided the man with release, and removed him of his head. Thorn has killed many in his life, but having to free his friend Tony of his tortured existence was too much for the simple Barbarian to deal with.

That night, while his party slept, Thorn left the city of Harmonia to find peace within himself and return to the wilderness that would comfort his thoughts.

Journey to the Dead Hills

FLAURMONT 14th, Soladain

The beginning of the day was spent gathering supplies and purchasing new items from the town of Skald. Little John’s equipment was ready for pick up from the blacksmith and the party of Robin, Little John, and Salandriel headed out by late afternoon.

With information provided by Akirel the party determined that the whereabouts of the Crown of Soldiers lied somewhere near the border of Bluetspur in an area Salandriel refered to as the Arkalias Hills or more commonly spoken of by the locals as The Dead Hills. The only clue they had to go on was that the crown would be found in the place where bones lie.

The journey got off to a bad start when after the first hour of travel through the party had determined that they were lost. Deeper they traveled into the redwood forest with acknowledgement of where they were heading. Little John feared that once again the mists would come and take them away, but it was at this point the Robin had remembered that he had a compass.

With compass now in hand, Salandriel navigated the party back to the southern borders of the realm where they found there first glimpse of the Arkalias Hills.

After another couple hours of travel over the hills, dusk began to set in. On a nearby hill a lone camp fire could be spotted. The party decided to travel to the camp with the idea that they would be better protected in these hills in greater numbers.

Once they reached the campfire, Little John and Robin were shocked to discover Aeolus and Nalia, there former companions whom they had not scene in over a week. As if this coincidence was not proof enough of the gods existence, Thorn stepped out of the woods, claiming to have been tracking Little John and Robin for sometime.

With a new adventure on hand, Robin and Aeolus agreed to bury the hatchet between them and focus on the new task at hand. Somewhere in these hills Robin claims they will find the place where the bones lie and there the Crown that once returned will not them a 3000 gold pay day.

Deciding that the adventure would be best started in the morning, the party bedded down for the night. Thorn took first watch when he discovered a small band of Kobolds attempting to sneak into the camp sight. After a blast of a powerful sleep spell form Aeolus, Little John continued to slaughter the remaining Kobolds while they slept and leaving only one alive.

When the final kobold reawoke, Thorn and Aeolus proceeded to torture the creature over there camp fire until it told them where his hide out was. Screaming in pain, and with Nailia begging the group to stop their torture, the little kobold confessed to his tribes hide out south of their position in the canyon caves.

Nalia transformed into an eagle to survey the land and true enough, about a mile south form their camp site a canyon gorge was found. With the final message, Robin decided to end the creature misery and pierced it through it’s throat ending its life.

The group continued to bed, resting for the journey to the canyon.

Battle with the Skeletons

FLAURMONT 15th, Lunadain

As the sun crested the peak, one by one the party awoke, each spending their hour of meditation in preparation for what the day had ahead.

Following his morning study, Aeolus spent time examining the Rod of Isu that has been in his possession since the party left Har’Akir. Having seen it used he knew it was a powerful weapon and most likely and valuable one. The secret to its activation remained hidden to him. A key word is needed to bring the rod to life as well as a being with evil desires, but perhaps there was a way this rod could be tricked. Returning the rod to his bag, Aeolus joined the group as they left camp.

The party left early that morning heading south to the canyon Nalia had spotted. As they approached they could hear the beating of the drums the creature from the previous night foretold to them.

Following the sound of the drums, the forest regions of the Dead Hills died away till only sparse dead trees remained along the hill crests. Just over the next hill something was approaching, something big. Could this be the source of the pounding drums?

Two giant skeletons crested the ridge. Standing at 12’ in height, each had a fire burning within there ribs. No one in the party could recall seeing creatures such as these before. Thorn asked the party to hang back and formulated a surprise attack on the monsters, but the coverage in the dying landscape was too sparse. The skeleton creature took notice of Little John and let off a shrieking cry. They reached into their chest, removing the fire from within and rained fire down upon the party.

Realize the trouble of the team, Thorn raged. With the help of Little John, bolstering his power with prayers form his god, Thorn charged, cutting down the monster as it descended the hill. By his side Salandriel ran in along with him, dual wielding his rapiers. Where Thorn attacked with brute strength, Salandriel battled with grace taking down the second skeleton, Salandrial would be a powerful ally indeed.

As each skeleton fell, their body trans-morphed to the size of a normal human. Aeolus looked over this with concern, a powerful magic was at work here.
